What Does NIC Ask For?
North Island College's Practical Nursing Diploma is a two-year, full-time program that starts in the fall. It runs at the Port Alberni campus, as well as Campbell River and the Comox Valley, and NIC gives priority admission to Indigenous students.
NIC's 2026-27 program guide asks for high school graduation, Foundations of Mathematics 11 with a C, English 12 with a C+, and Biology 12 with a C, along with other requirements. Ask NIC which current Grade 12 biology course it accepts. Missing one? Upgrading tutoring in Port Alberni covers all three.
After admission, NIC gives a math evaluation to spot learning needs, and recommends aiming for 90%.

Is RISE part of North Island College?
No. RISE Alberni is a separate nonprofit. NIC runs the Practical Nursing program and decides admission; we tutor students and applicants.
Can you help with the math evaluation?
Yes. Our math tutors can work through the math with you before the evaluation, so you go in ready.
Why is there GST?
Tutoring for K-12 students that follows the K-12 curriculum is exempt from GST. We're required to collect GST on other tutoring, including post-secondary and adult tutoring.
Can sessions be online?
